When selecting a Power Supply of a computer, you need two 12 volt rails?

Why have some power two 12 volt rails? Is the burden of the other 12 tracks V? Why are some (on Newegg) and twice 12 volts, when did three 12 volt rails, and some appear to be two and only two 12 volt rails? And some have two-way 12-volt and 12 volt 4 way? Usually have a lower intensity in each lane.
